Bedbugs the Musical!

So over the weekend I decided I was a genius after I came up with an idea for a hit Broadway musical production called Bedbugs The Musical! It'd be quite a fantastical production including some of the following scenes:
-A giant bedbug destroys the skyline of NYC Godzilla-style
-Elaborate ballroom dance with actors dressed in bedbug costumes dancing with their human prey
-Some sort of bedbug Trail of Tears after the President of NYC (the characters and plot line are obviously not too realistic) banishes bedbugs from the city
-An incredibly thrilling scene in which bedbugs make their first attack on a slumbering human. This involves actors in bedbug costumes ascending a gigantic bed and human legs made out of fiberglass or something. I don't know too much about set and prop building.

My good friend Matan will be performing a live soundtrack to Buster Keaton's "The General" this Memorial Day in NYC. On piano. Modestly testing my chops at event-throwing. The movie is a masterpiece and the show is going to be incredible. Above is the flyer, a shot I took of Matan over the summer with found chickens. The skull was found on the perimeter of Green-Wood Cemetery. I don't know what animal it once belonged to. The jars were found at Dead Horse Bay, a fascinating place that will be posted about in greater depth later on. The jars were then filled with crab claws which were on hand in great numbers.

Last Spring or so I found myself in a large Tribeca loft with friends. There was a children's playroom with those giant stuffed safari animals one can admire at FAO Schwartz, a toy chest of hats of all varieties, etc, etc. Each room was thoroughly explored and after, with permission, we ate all of the ice cream in the freezer.

The Walmart near my parents' home is undergoing a serious infestation of little black birds. Apparently they reside there year-round and fly in spiraling flocks throughout the parking lot. Some people were spotted running in disgust.

Just got back from Texas. I bought myself a little present yesterday which gives me the new ability to take video of anything and everything whenever I want! I got a little too excited and filmed this flamboyant fellow outside of Thrift City that my sister and I have affectionately named "Slinky." You've probably seen him before announcing the Grand Opening of your local car dealership or Chinese buffet. It's possible that an unidentified Thrift City employee spotted me, while taking his smoke breaks, visiting Slinky on three separate days - first to admire his happy little dance, then to photograph him, and then to get a zoomed in video that everyone can enjoy. I don't know what came over me. Those things are a riot.

Then I made a video of the ride in my mom's car. I think it has a lot of attitude.

The 3rd Ward craft fair last weekend was a total success. Bust Magazine's fair is this Sunday in Manhattan and I will be making a large array of very small clocks which will probably be adorable.

Oh, and the James Franco art show is tonight and will include hot buttered rum, dancing, and music from what I hear.

Long weekend spent in Red Hook at my studio breathing through a face mask and surviving off of muffins. Many, many items made for the upcoming 3rd Ward and Bust craft fairs over the next two weekends. Also busted out a large James Franco-themed clock for a Dec 10th exhibit in Bushwick. I'm pretty pumped with the end result. And now my studio is trashed. Above is a little taste of 12 o'clock although this image appears in a much different form. Not entirely sure why I did this considering my feelings on Franco are "undecided."

My sister and I will be participating in 3rd Ward's holiday craft fair again this year, taking place Saturday Dec 4th in Brooklyn. It'll be a hip artsy time for sure. We've stocked up on flasks, clock parts, zippo lighters, and other such gift-worthy items in preparation. I think there will be music and adult beverages as well. I'll post a reminder and some images of what we'll be selling once the date nears.

A secluded little spot of beauty in the woods of Vermont. A few injuries occurred here during my Marlboro summer so I decided it best not to jump off one of the many cliffs into the icy depths of the gorge. It was pleasant enough to just bask in the sun on a rock as yellow butterflies flitted about.

I've decided to regularly illustrate my dreams while here at the Marlboro Festival in
Vermont. And keep a food journal.

In this particular dream I am ascending a treacherous staircase. There are inflatable pillows on each step which make it very difficult to manage. As I reach the top I see large windows from floor to ceiling overlooking a vast seascape. There is a man reading a paper who doesn't seem to mind me.
At some point in this dream I decide "Jetson" is the perfect name for a pet.

The day before this dream I ate:
-One date nut muffin
-A Korean dinner cooked for the festival by my friend Doug which included:
--Marinated beef
--Korean pancakes
--clear noodle salad of some sort
--miso soup
--sauces
--kimchi
--white wine
The Korean dinner was also accompanied by a duo of piano and operatic vocals as we ate.

Seeing black & white reminds me of the darkroom. And I miss it. I always thought the chemicals smelt a lot of bacon. And I'm pretty sure all of my clothes were soaked in it while I was at school. Certain albums were also very prominent during my darkroom time -- Grandaddy's Software Slump was a biggie, Mercury Rev. And I rarely listened to them outside of that environment. Radiohead when I processed rolls of film while peeping in the apt windows across the street from the SVA photo building.
Growing up my dad and I built a darkroom in an unused bathroom of the house (which was the best) and I would listen to the Strokes' Is This It aaaalll the time. I think then they may have had a big influence on my view of New York. There's nothing like working in the darkroom by yourself, hours on end, red light, chemicals, poor ventilation, music, and pictures appearing out of paper and liquid. A good time to reflect on life.

I dug this one out a couple of days ago. Green squawking parrots enjoying themselves atop some razor wire on a rooftop that my apartment overlooks. I think they come from the cemetery nearby and there are various rumors regarding their origins in this neighborhood. They often come in flocks when the weather's nice and share with pigeons and cats the expired foodstuffs that people throw from their windows. I used to give them old meats but the rooftop wildlife seem to do quite well off of stale tortillas and pitas. It's about that time of the season when packs of kittens begin showing up.

My most recent gift, for my roommate and Charles Barkley enthusiast, was acquired yesterday at an old bookshop in Philadelphia: an original 8x10" Charles Barkley family photo dated 1984 from Alabama. Straight in a frame and straight on the living room wall. Lookin' good!

Apologies due to lack of posting. Been a very busy couple of weeks due to preparations for the "Gifted" holiday market presented by Brooklyn Flea in Manhattan. It's happening now at Lafayette Av and 4th St and we'll be there Saturday and Sunday. Had a successful Friday and are close to selling out of clocks but after inhaling too much spray paint, gloss, and Coney Island beer tonight we'll be providing some new items for the last two market days. Only one shoplifter...a hipster who jacked a painted journal...but I find that to be halfway flattering.

Times Square is a wonderland of imagery and cheap tourist entertainment. This is something that I often forget when looking at my digital camera sitting in the corner of my room. After the Yanni concert at Radio City Music Hall (an in depth posting accompanied by photographs is coming very soon) I aimlessly wandered the streets and found myself in the center of this ridiculous phenomenon of Manhattan. Lots of pictures were taken...this might have to be a two-parter.

Last Night's Dream

Last night's dream went as follows:

My friends and I are in the apartment when there's a knock at the door. It's Barack Obama. He explains that he's trying to get more in touch with the people by stopping by houses at random and hanging out with whomever's inside. We all try to act nonchalant about this to make him feel more comfortable.
Obama goes into the kitchen and decides to show us a recipe he has for a tasty treat. He puts frosted wafer cookies in a pot over a heated stove and starts mixing them around. He tells us, "We need sprinkles." I frantically rummage through the cabinets and offer to go out and buy them from a nearby store but he says that isn't necessary even though he continues to stress the importance of the sprinkles. I do find some old sprinkle canisters on the top shelf but they rot and turn gray when I pour them into my hand to check for freshness.
Obama then tries to tell us something but his speech slows and slurs, I think he's having a stroke. Ends up he's just sleepy and goes to my room for bed. It's only 7:45pm but we all decide that it must be very tiring being President.

Burlesque: Lady Rizo @ Highline Ballroom

Photographed a burlesque show on Saturday with my sister and got a few rolls backstage. Never thought I'd shoot any more of that action again, but the show was pretty fantastic. Really good live music which I don't always associate with burlesque performances. More medium format to be uploaded as it's scanned.

And this isn't an X-Rated posting, those breasts are covered. That woman is also incredibly pregnant.

These pictures are a repeat, posted in a Facebook album a long time ago - but room organization has been accomplished so scanning will resume. In the process I found some rolls from the festival that were never developed. And there's a lot of medium format that needs to be scanned.

Due for an update. Forgot to post a link to the show I shot for Quiet Color which can be seen here. I put any additional shots up on flickr.

My Big Foot image was shot yesterday. I temporarily destroyed my living room and soiled my hands with dirt and moss in the process. Then I relaxed to The Sound of Music on the TV which was quite nice and very much needed. This was all after a large batch of chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries was prepared and consumed. My room is due for a deep session of organization before I go through the images and post something on here. That'll take place in a day or two. I think that will also lead to the scanning of many recent but neglected negatives.

Just got back from the premiere of Ashes of American Flags, the new Wilco concert/documentary film. They make me really, really happy. I found it difficult to not jiggle around in my seat.
